When you extend your TimeStatement license and choose for the change to take effect immediately, you rightly look forward to additional user seats. The cleverbridge overview then sometimes shows an amount summarized up to the next invoice date. This occasionally gives the impression that the new licenses will only be activated in a few months.
This is usually not the case. This article explains the difference between immediate activation and the amount shown for the next invoice.
What happens with an immediate license extension?
When you change or adjust your subscription, you can choose whether the change should take effect:
- immediately, or
- only from the next payment.
If you choose immediate effect, the additional user seats are activated as soon as the payment for this extension has been processed according to the payment method – not only on the next regular invoice date.
What does the cleverbridge amount until the next invoice show?
cleverbridge often shows a consolidated amount up to the next billing date. This is the total expected to be charged on the next invoice for the user licenses valid at that time.
- Depending on the contract, the next billing date can still be 2 to 11 months away.
- This amount describes the future invoice – it does not automatically postpone the activation of the extension you just ordered to that date.
In short: the amount is a preview of the next invoice amount, not a postponement of the immediate extension.
When are the new user seats available?
If you chose immediate effect, activation depends on the payment method:
- Credit card: The card can usually be charged immediately. The license is therefore usually activated in real time.
- Bank transfer: cleverbridge only activates the additional licenses once payment has been received (often up to about 48 hours). For details, see the article After a license upgrade by bank transfer: new users only after payment has been received.
As long as activation is pending, the previous number of users may still be shown under "Management" > "License".
Common misunderstanding
Wrong: "I'm paying for the extension now, but the seats will only be activated in, for example, three months because cleverbridge shows something up to the next invoice date."
Right: If you chose immediate effect, the seats are activated according to the payment method. The cleverbridge amount up to the next invoice date is the consolidated preview for the next invoice, not a future activation date.
Checking your license
- Open the "Management" tab.
- Select "License".
- Check the number of licensed and active users and the status of your subscription.

FAQ: cleverbridge shows a date several months away / a high amount until the next invoice – is the license only activated then?
No, usually not. With "extend immediately", new user seats are typically available right away. The cleverbridge overview often summarizes the amount up to the next billing date (depending on the contract, this can still be 2 to 11 months away). This is the future invoice – not a postponement of the activation. At the same time, check under "Management" > "License" in TimeStatement whether the new number of users is already active.
