A project template saves time, ensures consistency, minimizes errors and provides structured planning while staying flexible. With TimeStatement, you can create a sample project with your standard settings – such as project details, employees, tasks, expense categories as well as flat rates and retainers. You can reuse this template for future projects: clone the sample project in just a few clicks and all predefined settings are transferred to the new project automatically.
Creating a sample project and using it as a template
1. Click the "Projects" tab and then "Create Project".
2. Select no template and click "Next".
3. Name the project "Sample project". Now define all project details, such as the currency, billing type, hourly rate and the project budget. Fill in everything the way you want it for your project template. Click "Save". If you need help, see our guide "How do I create a project?".
Tip: We recommend selecting your own company – i.e., yourself – in the "Client" field. Why this makes sense and how to set it up is explained below.
4. You can now add employees, tasks and expense categories as well as flat rates and retainers to the sample project, the way you want to use them for future projects. Don't forget to click "Save" after each change.
5. To use the sample project as a template for a new project, click the "Projects" tab again and then "Create Project".
6. This time, select the project to use as a template (e.g. "Website Relaunch"), so your next project starts with already configured project details, employees, tasks, expense categories as well as flat rates and retainers – provided you enable "Copy Flat rates / Retainers".
7. After selecting the sample project as the template for the new project, you can still customize the project individually at any time. For example, if the project is for a new client who pays different rates, you can adjust the rates specifically for this project.
Add yourself as a client
We recommend adding your own company as a client. This way, you can create a sample project for yourself that you can use for all other projects and clients. Here's how:
1. Switch to the "Clients" tab, click "New Client" and add your own company as a client.
2. Use your company name and then click "Save".
